My first real experience seeing the potential of Japanese performance cars was at a Group A Touring Car race at Barbagallo Raceway in Perth, Western Australia in 1991. As an impressionable 14 year old, seeing the BNR32 Nissan Skyline GT-R run away from the pack so easily was unforgettable, especially at a time when Japanese cars were still largely unaccepted as legitimate performance cars by the V8 obsessed Australian public. Fast forward to the year 2000 and I found myself in Japan being blown away by the depth and enormity of the Japanese tuning car scene. Nine years on I’m still here and still being blown away. It’s my pleasure to be able to present my experiences to you through regular updates at 7Tune. Growing up with an uncle teaching English in Japan, I fast became obsessed with all things Japanese. I made the transition from Tamagotchi to Tsuchiya in 2001 with the purchase of a 1992 Nissan 180sx, from that day on my passion for JDM performance cars has run on the redline! While my current situation doesnt allow me to “live the dream” and move to Japan, I have spent some time there and try to get over at least once a year. Car: 2008 Nike Air Max 90s Ambition: Buy back my old 180SX (first car) and restore it to absolute showroom condition. |
