EVENT – FIA GT3 Zandvoort, The Grid
There is something about the buzz on the grid before a race starts. Tension is in the air as cars approach and the grid girls take their place. The teams get ready for their final checks and the crowd gets excited when they hear the cars come to life. It will not be long before the race starts…. Join me on the grid of the FIA GT3!
First up are the grid girls. As soon as the main gate to the Zandvoort grid opened they lined up on their assigned rows immediately followed by loads of vips, photographers and team members.
One by one the cars slowly start rolling in. Instantly people on the grandstands stand up, more mechanics are entering the grid and the noise starts to build.
As soon as the car is on it’s position the team makes it way over there while the marshals wave the double yellow to notify the oncoming traffic to slow down.
Before the drivers get into the cars they talk to the vips, team and press. A good opportunity to shoot their helmets as they are most of the time left on the top of the car. I really love to see all the different designs these guys have on there.
Further down the grid I also ran into this design. Very colorful and detailed. What do you think a helmet should look like?
Meanwhile all the cars have arrived on the grid. Here is a shot of the Charouz SLS which qualified second.
In front of the grid there are more girls holding the FIA GT3 flag and the flags of all car makes present in the race. Hopefully the drivers on the front row did not have to much problems concentrating.
Talking about concentration. Here is Mike Parisy in his Mercedes getting ready for the race while his mechanic performs some final checks.
For the AF Corse squad the races could not get started fast enough as they were in the hot seat to grab the drivers championship.
Stay tuned for my final report of the FIA GT3 races!
