FEATURE- KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA – A KID IN A CANDY STORE

R34 GTR

As Forrest Gump says, “life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get”, this can literally be directly applied to the JDM Scene in Kuala Lumpur. From Monster R33’s to DC5 Integra’s that are fully prepared to attack the tracks, when trying to comprehend the JDM scene in Malaysia one must not expect anything and just play it by ear, delve right into the melting pot of diversity, which is the highlight of what Malaysia is all about, with its rich cultural and ethnic diversity.

When one goes to Kuala Lumpur on the hunt for parts and to spot JDM you will really feel like a child in a candy store, with parts and JDM all over you wouldn’t know which flavour or type to settle for! Which exhaust to choose? Which body kit? Shocks? Absolutely spoilt for choice.

PARTS

Wherever you go, one must always be ready to be in for pleasant surprises, at the turn of a head all of a sudden there will be a beam on one’s face reminiscent to that of a child’s smile, when your favourite JDM goes roaring past in all its gleaming glory. Look look! A DC5!

Then there are some, who don’t go roaring by because they are at a car version of a clinic getting tuned and diagnosed to be driven and admired another day, like this clean AE86 with the classic “panda” paint job.

One thing can be said about the JDM owners in Kuala Lumpur, they truly love and care for the machine that has been built with hard work and passion. Car makers of respective brands will be shedding tears of joy to see the cars they built being cared for as if it is one’s child. Just look at this immaculate SW20, that looks like it just came out of the factory, when it’s actually 14 odd years old!

Then there are the hardcore owners who want only to be able to go faster. R35 GTR, pretty quick right? Well not quick enough for the owner of this brand new GTR, getting it kitted out with a Tubi exhaust system, making it sound fantastic, and go faster.

And then there are the extreme hardcore. This was no ordinary skid I can tell you that! The mechanic doing repairs on this RB20 Cefiro kept shaking his head as he explained to us the kind of madness the driver put the poor car through.

And I leave you with this extremely rare sight indeed, a pair of retired Tom’s Super GT cars.

Thank you, and keep 7tuned for future posts!
