Along with the still video images taken of the LF-A recently, these Lexus IS-F Evolution spy pics (or what one source claims is the “IS-R”) are a welcome addition showing that the IS-F Evolution is nearing the end of its 150KG weight loss program.

We’ve posted articles on the IS-F Evolution before [1] [2] stating that the hood, roof, front and rear fenders/bumpers and trunk lid would be made of carbon fiber to eliminate up to 150KG in weight and now we can also add visual confirmation of a rear wing to that list, as well as very supportive carbon backed Recaro seats. A proper Torsen LSD and revised suspension to offer a firmer ride over standard have also been confirmed and the images show what are possibly production ready examples of the BBS alloy wheels to be included in the IS-F Evolution package.

With the spy shots comes the news that the development code name for the IS-F Evolution is 182A! It’s obvious that the IS-F Evolution’s code name is very similar to the Toyota/Subaru “086A” compact sports car and we assume that the LF-A and the Prius-based hybrid coupe also have similar designations although there has been no mention of the codes for these cars thus far. Japan’s New Model Magazine X also say that locally delivered examples of the “IS-R” (a working title for the car) or 182A will include a Nissan GT-R-like GPS activated speed limiter cut when the car is in the vicinity of a circuit. This feature will apply to Japanese models and not for export versions as far as we know.

The 182A IS-F Evolution is expected to go on sale in August 2010 at a price between 12,000,000 and 15,000,000 JPY (US$128,000 – 160,000) which might put some people at ease who were shocked at previous rumors of a US$250,000 price tag.

    Even though it’s only for Japan, I hope the GPS-based “rev limiter” mention is a mistranslation. I can see a GPS based speed limiter (barely…) but what good does an RPM limiter do to control speed on the street? Honda S2000 owners have been seeing 9,000 RPM on the street for years while being able to drive within local speed limits.

    That would be an extremely annoying feature if I were going to drop $128,000 on a new super Toyota sedan.

    Craig: You’re right! It’s a speed limiter cut! The cars in Japan are limited to 185km/h. This will be removed when in the vicinity of a race track. Article edited!

    Interesting, this is going to look awesome. I don’t mind that wing, it looks pretty functional. I only hope it does sell closer to 128K because 160K is too much of a jump over the stock IS-F.

    doesnt look like cf panels. looks like black matt paint ?

  • i don’t know

    how come i feel that it’s has honda accord euro gene? still good for me because only japan will get speed limiter… so i don’t have to spend on removing it… heard that some spend big money on removing speed limiter in japan…
    still minus 150 kg with that new price is quite good actually for me… still i want to see the full list of what this blackie got…

    @i don’t know

    No its nog big money there are a few ways to do it. Like a HKS de-limiter costs about a $300.

    Just as bunk as the fake LFA “spy shots”.

    A trained monkey could photoshop better…..

    Dre: We’d love to see proof that these are fake still shots taken from a fake spy video.
