Mugen RR

Mugen finally released the RR version of the Honda Civic Type R.

Mugen has issued a press release concerning the RR (Double R), the eagerly anticipated modified version of the Civic Type R. Only 300 examples will be built for the Japanese market and sales will start from September 13, 2007. Only specific Honda dealerships will be selected to sell the RR, and those dealer locations will be announced sometime in August. Each car will receive a special Mugen build plate stamped with the chassis and build numbers to ensure exclusivity.

A total tuning package has been devised for the Mugen RR, through experience gained in various motor racing exploits including Formula One and Super GT. The aerodynamics, suspension, interior and engine have all been touched by Mugen to give a totally rewarding drive. The engine has recieved upgraded cam profiles, a full dual exhaust system, a larger air box and revised exhaust manifold all combining to give the 2.0L K20A an output of 240ps, up 15ps over the regular Type R. The RR gets Bridgestone RE070s which have been jointly developed with Bridgestone Tire Co. coupled with lighter and stronger Mugen forged alloy wheels. With not only performance but comfort in mind, 5-way adjustable dampers with matched lowered springs improve the good handling nature of the standard Type R.

A lot of time has been invested in producing functional aerodynamics and as a direct result of that, there is a two-fold benefit. Careful design using carbon fiber and aluminium not only lighten the body by over 15kg, but also give a useful reduction in front and rear lift to enhance high speed stability. Special semi bucket seats have been jointly developed with Recaro, offering two height settings: a normal setting for usual driving and a low setting for circuit driving. Both the Mugen steering wheel and short throw gear shifter have been placed perfectly to achieve the best possible driving position in both normal and low seat settings.

All 300 Mugen RR sedans will be available in Milano Red and will sell for 4,777,500 yen.
