Finally, Subaru have broken cover on a rendering for their sibling to the Toyota FT-86 and it’s definitely a looker. Not sure about the wing but there’s every likelihood there will be options and I have to say I personally dig the way the Scoobie is starting to take shape…
It’s a very large move away from what Subaru has been doing for many years which is touting their symmetrical all-wheel-drive systems for basically their entire range of cars. The engineers and marketing people at Subaru are giving very little information away about the BRZ but promise it’s low slung engine will offer edgy handling characteristics. Not much else is known actually, apart from the fact it will be a turbocharged boxer 4… and that’s about it.
Subaru are due to unveil the car on November 16th at the Los Angeles motor show and then again at the Tokyo Motor Show on the 30th of November, where the covers for the FT-86 will also come off.
It’s a bit weird that Subaru have been so silent while Toyota have appeared to be leaking a slew of information via catalogs, spy shots and renderings but judging by the looks of this “STi” version, the two cars will look visually different. I like the Subaru better if I was honest and it is basically guaranteed to be much quicker out of the box on all counts.
We’ll keep you posted with more as the news gets released.
