Christmas 2010 will be sweet for Japanese Subaristi as STI launched Friday on its web site a teaser for its new JDM model, the WRX STI tS, before the car is unveiled sometime in the second half of December.
We have seen the tS label already this year on special editions of the Legacy and the Forester. While not a full blown STI overhaul, it gives these models plenty of nice STI branded bits and pieces, which is never a bad thing. As the WRX STI (the artist formerly known as Impreza WRX STI) is already a child of Subaru’s performance department straight from the factory, the tS version had to have a very special feature. This will be a carbon roof, developed in collaboration with the chemical giant Toray.
The WRX STI with a carbon roof will remind the visitors of the last Tokyo Motor Show something, as it was precisely the theme of a concept car in Subaru’s booth:
The WRX STI tS should not be very different from that, and will come in both WRX STI and WRX STI A-Line (the automatic 2.5l turbo version) guises. If you live in Japan and are interested in this car, head to the Subaru dealership near you for details before December 21st because a nice carbon tS keyholder is apparently up for grabs.
We will be back with more information as soon as STI releases them.
