You heard it here first – 7tune is at the 2010 TAS press day for what is a bumper event, jam packed with automotive goodness from all over the globe. We’ve got loads to cover from the event including the latest from the tuners, some special insights and loads of delectable eye candy of the female variety.
One of the cars generating a lot of press is the Toyota FT86, in this particular case tuned by G’s. Upon closer inspection it appears the FT86 is indeed sporting a front mount intercooler, ending debates over whether or not the car will be an N/A only special. A brief conversation with one of Toyota’s engineers revealed some interesting information.
The G’s FT86 is indeed a turbocharged boxer 4, mated to a 6 speed Toyota gearbox. Further detailing includes a host of carbon fiber parts, RE11 Bridgestone rubber and assorted aero parts.
G’s and Toyota have been kind enough to offer me a closer look at the car so a feature is to follow but for now, let your minds wander over the huge proposition this car represents to the future of the aftermarket tuning industry.

My keyboard just broke from all the drool…awesome scoop!
This just made my day
Can’t wait for the feature…hopefully that turbo makes it to the stock model…
now all this car needs is a sticker on the side ” Fujiwara’s Tofu”
Great now I gotta change my boxers cause I just crapped on myself… Are you kidding me this thing looks awesome… and if anything similar to this makes it to the streets those FT-86s are going to be all over the place and I for one cannot wait…
Great scoop indeed. A little mild considering the stuff im going to be doing to my Ft-86=D
Where’s my post?
Is G’s from Toyota? Like TRD? This is AWESOME news! I’m so buying one of these.
And a 7tune sticker :p
Awesome car, I just want it, the people from Toyota are twisted if they don’t put this car on fast forward to production. Oh and this tuned concept is a sign that the production car won’t suffer to many modifications? Or just a market tester, because I’ve read somewhere that the Toyota execs are a bit frustrated with the Honda CR-Z getting more attention then the FT-86 at the last Tokyo Motor Show. but then again the CR-Z was a pre production version and people were more interested in it because they knew that they can buy it in just half of year.
WHOA! I was hoping for it and it happened. A tuned FT-86 at the TAS. Def. can not way for the feature.
celica-xx: Your original post was auto deleted because you used a profanity…
No f-bombs on 7tune I’m afraid haha
By the way, there’s also a similarly styled Prius by G’s as well. G’s is “Gazoo Sports” for those that don’t know.
Also Justin, they have another one called GR – 2 different companies with different approaches but under the same roof as Toyota. I’ll be covering that in the feature. I had a good long chat with one of the senior managers and he was very helpful with info.
That’s pretty wild. Though I like the new age of aero styling, I’m still a stickler for good old fashioned sleeper style aero. That’s not to say I wouldn’t scoop up one of these babies if given the chance. I like steak, I prefer it medium rare with a little seasoning, but I sure as heck will still eat it when it’s dressed with mushrooms and onions with a side of dip.
Option’s January 2010 issue had the best FT concept, red and black two tone paint with Watanabes. If Toyota is smart they’ll release the two-tone paint as special editions.

This is sick news. I wanna see more of this car as soon as possible. Adam, you’re getting some primo content. Keep it coming!
Oh man. That looks amazing. I kinda wish they would of kept it N/A, but it’s still awesome anyways.
Wow! It looks like Toyota has been working really hard to shake off that boring image they’ve been painted with recently.. This spells only good things for enthusiasts ahead!
Can you please provide a link to official anouncement from Toyota or insider that it is going to be a boxer four engine? D-4S can be inline 4, flat 4 or V6. D for direct injection, 4 as four stroke (not cylinder) and S as Superior (for power/mpg). And its never even oficially said its going to be the D-4S, just the gran turismo 5 bonnet pic and Toyota president`s note about the possible D-4S engine in FT86. Maybe Im missing something, but this is how rumors spread and become a misleading fact.
