Sold Out: Nissan Skyline And EV Postage Stamps

All you Skyline and Nissan fans out there might remember that our man Justin posted news of Nissan releasing a limited edition run of stamps to celebrate the history of the Skyline and Nissan’s new EV Vehicles. The original article is here for those who didn’t get a glimpse.

Anyway, there were a few catches along the way to getting your hands on them. One was that there were only 5,000 of the Skyline stamp sheets made available and even fewer of the EV sheets. To make matters more difficult, the stamps were to go on sale in only two prefectures of Japan, one being Kangawa the home of Nissan’s new HQ just South of Tokyo. The other was Yamanashi, which is solid 2 hours away from downtown Tokyo. Add to that that only certain ‘regional’ post offices got the stamps and you know there’s going to be a rush for them.

Knowing all of this in advance I got up bright and early to make my way to Kawasaki Post Office. Only to see the measly 10 prints they had available be sold in front of my eyes. It was still 9:00 in the morning! With some quick thinking and desperation quickly settling in, I asked where the next closest post office was and promptly headed towards Yokohama station. Arriving around at the central Yokohama Post Office 20 minutes later, I knew my days stamps were numbered and quickly jumped in line. There were only a few sheets left, with Yokohama Post office getting what must have been the bulk of them. I promptly asked for two sheets in my politest Japanese but was promptly refused and told 1 sheet per person per day. This is where being a foreigner and standing out doesn’t work in your favor in Japan. The other sheets quickly sold out before I thought of how I could get more (sorry guys!).. But the staff  informed me there may be a reprint in the future. Lets hope that is the case as they really are cool!
