It’s been an intense first day at the 2012 WTAC with a bumper field laying down some serious track time in their pursuit for the main prize tomorrow. The NEMO EVO driven by local specialist, Warren Luff smashed last years record by a full 3 seconds with a searing 1:25.7 to take Friday honors but the big story comes from Japan’s Cyber Evo team who had a torrid day and didn’t even end up hitting the track… Read more
It’s a sunny but windy day here in Sydney, Australia. We’re at the new Sydney Motorsport Park, formerly known as Eastern Creek Raceway. With the World Time Attack Challenge (WTAC) underway, cars from all over the world have gathered to race against the clock. With the morning session done and dusted, the current leader is Nemo Racing’s Mitsubishi Evo 9 with an astonishing time of 1:25.74, a whole 3 second faster than the record set by Tarzan Yamada in the Cyber Evo last year.
It happens more often than not that I end up in the right place at the right time. Only a few days back, I randomly bumped into Amemiya san at the same spot where we were waiting to meet people. It was an incredible coincidence but a timely one that led to this article. You see, Amemiya san told me that, after all the issues and false starts to their WTAC time attack campaign, they were finally ready to shake down the world famous Hurricane FD at Fuji Speedway. There was no way I was going to miss the opportunity to witness that… Read more
The 10th of October 2011 marked a stepping-stone for the Honda community in Australia with the first ever Honda Nationals debuting at the popular Wakefield Park in Goulburn, 2 hours south of Sydney. Never before have there been so many Hondas sharing the same piece of tarmac at Wakefield or any other racetrack in Australia for that matter, there were a total of 52 Hondas that entered and even more that came to spectate from both New South Wales and Victoria.

In the wake of Sierra Sierra’s stunning 1:29.024, the Cyber Evo team has launched a protest, claiming that the American team is running NOS; a claim the Sierra Sierra team deny.
Sierra Sierra has invited the Cyber Evo team to come and inspect the car but as of this moment no one has visited.
This news has come as a surprise to the paddock as the Sierra Evo has blasted out of the box to take the top time by a long way, leaving the Cyber Evo team to make up almost a second over the next 3 sessions.
Just to add a little more drama to the situation, the Sierra car is currently out of the running for sessions 2 and 3 with a blown head gasket but they expect to run for the final session which is sure to be a blockbuster ending to a fantastic event. Crucially, the weather has cleared here and the rain clouds that threatened the event have been blown upwind meaning there is plenty of action still to come.
7Tune is live on hand with the latest news and we’ll be back soon with more from a bright and sunny Eastern Creek raceway with more news, entertainment and information.

There’s been a big upset in the first session for the Pro class with David Empringham taking the Sierra Sierra Lan-Evo to top spot with a commanding 1:29.024; some 7 tenths faster than the best Tarzan Yamada could muster with a 1:29.791. Empringham’s stunning time was made when everybody believed that the track would be at its best and with the threat of rain closing in for the afternoon, there is every chance that we already have our final result. The 2011 WTAC has already heated up and the pace was frantic from the very minute the lights went out in all three classes. 7tune wasn’t able to be at the event this year due to other engagements so it was good to see that the people at Revolution Racing were thoughtful enough to mount a camera inside the car – now we can all enjoy the lap as well.
It was all smiles and excitement as people filtered into the midnight launch event organised by Harvey Norman and Sony. A Sony enforced ban on the sale of the game till midnight of the 25th November ensured a large crowd at the event. Gran Turismo 5 is easily this year’s most coveted and anticipated racing game. With constant delays that have pushed back the release date of the game till now. The game shows off Sony’s Playstation 3′s graphic capabilities and gives the game a hyper realistic feel. It’s definitely no Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, but something a little more serious, but no less fun.
Before even stepping into the store there were a few nice cars downstairs, including this R35 GT-R. I have a feeling that a lot of the customers would have rather have had the chance to win this than the scale model.
There were 4 of these set ups, i would have happily taken home one. It’s definitely THE way to enjoy the game. A Playstation 3 controller just won’t cut it.
Mr Kazunori Yamauchi has outdone himself this time, the cars are so beautifully rendered with excruciatingly fine details present on all cars.
The crowd eager to try their hand at winning the prize.
But in the end this was what it was about. A copy of the game to bring home and enjoy for hours on end.
The shoot for Hot Version volume 108 was coming to a close but why was Yasu Kikuchi soaked? I couldn’t figure out what was going on when he suddenly appeared from stage left panting and heaving, in front of the camera with his regular cohorts and babbling on about a near death experience! Read more
Undoubtedly one of the most eye catching cars at the 2010 TAS was the tubular chassis, carbon fiber everything, Hankook Revolution FD3S time attack car. It’s been around for a little while now but it’s still absolutely out of this world – just look at it!
