Toyota’s quest to produce more exciting vehicles continues with a rumored 6-speed manual gearbox to appear in the G Sports version of the GRX133 Mark X.

The Toyota Mark X G Sports Concept we saw at the Tokyo Auto Salon in January was of course endowed with the 6-speed automatic gearbox found in the standard Mark X line up which straight away made us think of how good it’d be with a manual transmission. Toyota could very well make this happen with a little parts sharing exercise with its European cousin, the Lexus IS220d.

The Lexus IS220d comes with a 2.2L direct injected turbo diesel engine producing 177hp and 40.0kg/m torque and is only available with an Aisin 6-speed manual gearbox. The good news is that mating the Aisin 6-speed to the Mark X’s 3.5L V6 is high on the agenda at Toyota in an effort to continue the Tourer/iR-V lineage which stopped when the JZX110 Mark II went out of production. We can expect the 2GR-FSE 3.5L V6 in the Mark X G Sports version to rise by around 50PS over its current 318PS output and torque to rise to around 40.0kg/m, keeping within the limits of the Aisin 6-speed manual transmission.

At this stage only estimates are being thrown around concerning the price but we can expect the exterior and interior upgrades to add around 1,000,000 JPY (US$11,198) and a further 300,000 JPY (US$3,358) for the 6-speed manual. The base price of a Mark X 350S is 3,525,000 JPY (US$39,466) so the total price for the Mark X G Sports version could reach as high as 4,800,000 JPY (S$53,741).

Is this thing coming to America? That thing looks sick!

  • http://www.7tune.com Justin Karow

At this stage I don’t think so Danny, looks like it’s a JDM-only model at the moment.

I hope this (or something like it) gets released outside Japan. I’ve always loved the JZX sedans but that ended when they changed to the Mark X and that more or less was because of no turbo and manual options.

  • STJ

This car is gonna win back the JZX people! Only hope the transmission is strong enough to handle the supercharged version with 360bhp.

And the 6MT is also in the EU IS250 with 215bhp.

another vote here for a US release

one in black would be nice. thx

With emissions and safety standards of JDM cars being regulated so well nowadays, I really don’t see any reason for this car not to be released stateside besides market share…it’s always the market share…I hate the business side of the automotive world.

We missed out on so many good cars like the Aurion and Mark X. I guess we have the IS-F and upcoming GS-F but still…need more selection.

  • http://www.7tune.com Justin Karow

STJ, I’m not sure if the 6MT in the EU IS250 is exactly the same as the IS220d? If the Aisin box is in the IS250 as well then it’s very understressed, Best Car say the Aisin 6MT is good for up to 45.0kg/m but that’s still shy of the 50.0kg/m or so of the supercharged +M Mark X from Modellista (6AT only of course)so there might not be a factory supercharger for the G Sports if they’re not willing to upgrade the 6MT.

  • Stingray

The car is awesome, but unless they make this car global, that quest will fail, because as far as I know Toyota already has a large market share in Japan.

  • Stingray

Oh, and are you sure that is’ based on the Lexus IS, it looks bigger then the Lexus.

  • http://www.7tune.com Justin Karow

Stingray, we’re talking about the gearbox ;)

  • Stingray

I’ve seen that after I’ve sent the comments, sorry I was reading the article and talking at the phone in the same time. :-P

  • STJ

    @Justin Karow

I realy think they are gonna upgrade the 6MT, maybe its the same they are gonna use in the turbo FT86.

  • Rafal

Aisin, not Aishin! Aisin is producing lot of parts like clutches, gearboxes, water or oil pumps for Toyota for many, many years.

Rafal, we actually translate these articles directly from Japanese, ‘Aishin’ is the proper way to spell the company name in English when translated from katakana. Although we’ve spelled it correctly in the past http://www.7tune.com/subaru-086a-sti/ , http://www.7tune.com/ft-86-up-close-and-personal/ we sometimes get a little carried away with translating directly from Japanese to English. Article edited and thanks for pointing it out.

To quote the late Mr. James Brown:

    “Please, please, please”.

I have a JZX100 Tourer V, and had resigned myself to upgrading no further than the JZX110 IR-V based purely on the lack of MT option in the Mark X.

I was even prepared to TRY and develop an affection for the charged 2GR instead of my beloved 1JZ… And now, with a manual option, I may just be enticed :)

  • http://JDMism.com/ Laurence

Oh god I hope this is true! 4D FR MT FTW!

  • phil

I believe that Modellista already makes a factory installed supercharger kit for this 350. If they sell that, with the 6MT, without the bodykit ( not that it’s a bad one), then =fabulous Q car!!

  • Beau Brosh

Nice to see its getting performance options but the car is ugly as all hell. They should just have the back glass move with the trunk. Fail looks…
